I fear for myself, mothers, sisters,and unborn daughters because we live in a world where the society will do anything to protect the ego of the man.
We live in a world where a woman gets paid less for working the same hours -even more- as a man because of her physical appearance.
Where a woman is condemned for revealing parts of her body because it is offensive to the man’s eyes ; yet called unattractive when she decides to cover herself up.
In a world where the daughters are taught to stay away from the opposite sex, not walk alone in “dangerous” corners, not make eye contact with the opposite sex because then you would be giving consent. The male child isn’t taught how to respect a woman’s “NO”
We leave our homes with taser and pepper spray because we fear we might be attacked: if we refuse to talk to them or exchange numbers.
Where, a woman is not meant to speak in the gathering of men because she is the second sex, the lower sex.
We count ourselves lucky as hell if we are being sent to school to receive formal education, because learning is for the man and we shouldn’t compete.
We do not have a say in whom we decide to marry because at 14 we’ve been sent off to the house of the dying old man whom we were betrothed to.
Heaven forbids you treat yourself out, you are a prostitute : and why should you a single mother have fun? Why should you look good ? You are meant to look unkempt, haggard, because without a man you can’t be financially stable.
We are blamed for wearing provocative dresses and are told to accept rape as the result of our dressing choice because wearing a mini skirt equates to consent. “Why were you alone with him?” “Why did you wear that dress?” No punishment whatsoever for the rapist: The victim gets to live with the trauma and the blame. In a world where the rapists are protected and treated as normal humans while the victims have to deal with living with stigma.
” Your husband is always right, do as he says” ,” He is the head if the house and you should respect his decisions without questioning”, “Divorce? What will people say about you? That you couldn’t keep your man?”, ” What is love without misunderstandings? He is only beating you because his love for you won’t let him allow you go in the wrong direction.”
What are you going to say at her funeral, now that you’ve killed the woman?
nice one soffss. i felt the emotion in this . hopefully one day the world will come to the right place where it protects the woman and not just because they think the woman is weak. hopefully one day men start acting right and respecting this consent thing. Sigh. This is a very sensitive topic people don’t like speaking on. Some people really love to ignore the problem and not address it. Even some women now see it as their norm. Thank you for writing on this.

I really worry about women accepting this as normal. We were discussing the lady that was shipped naked, beaten and a paper inserted into her privates at work today. To my greatest shock, a lady said she asked for it and deserved it because the assault took place in the guy’s apartment!!! I was wowed….hearing that coming from a lady……very pathetic!!!
