I was talking with a very good friend of mine and soon enough the conversation switched to how social media has successfully brainwashed young people especially girls of our generation to believing that having a “popping” page with a lot of followers is achieving something. You see people doing a lot of crazy stuffs just for likes , to get approval from people you probably don’t even know. Nowadays, it seems like everyone is walking around with a professional photographer and suddenly once you can strike a few poses, you’re an automatic model. Almost every page you come across you find ” model ” in the bio. The painful part is how the people with “little” followers and likes become downcast and start thinking of ways to make their page “big “, to the extent of actually buying followers.
Most girls are tangled in the strings of make up. They can’t seem to do without make up ; whether they’re going to class or just for a walk , their faces are beat like that of a bride’s own. Some have gotten so comfortable that they can’t even take a picture with their bare faces.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying being on Instagram or any social media is a crime, I’m not saying you shouldn’t or can’t use make up. I’m saying you shouldn’t let it control your life.
It’s quite sad when you see girls that were sent to school to study for a better future, trying hard to keep up with the latest trend. I once used to be like this, to the extent that my mum noticed and called my attention to it , she said ” success is the new sexy”. Till date , that statement keeps ringing in my head.
I’m not acting like I’m perfect or without flaws. I’m just sharing my view on something that I feel is disheartening.
We are our tomorrow, please do not let these things that would pass away take away our focus. Some may say ” school is not necessary, you can make it with your talents ” ,which is true but trust me when you’re educated, you’ll go farther than when you’re not.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” , don’t forget that “All play and no work makes Jack a mere toy”.
